Climate capers

In the world of climate science there has been a bit of a tizzy the last few weeks, although I couldn’t blame you for not knowing, the media seems to be intent on keeping it as quiet as possible. If it was not for a few brave journalists like James Delingpole no-one would even know about it.

Why would scientists cover up science?

But take a while to use your imagination.

Imagine you have just finished a PHD in climate science.

Chances are it took you a total of about 10 years of post-school study to get there. You watched all your mates go out and get on with their lives, make lots of money in their much more popular fields and settle down, maybe even buying a house.

Meanwhile you worked towards your holy grail.

Now imagine you finally get those wonderful pieces of paper and the right to call yourself a doctor. Imagine the pride, the sense of accomplishment. Imagine looking out at the faces of your loved ones in the crowd, seeing the admiration in their eyes and the love as well.

Imagine going home, framing your little scrap of paper, hanging up your robes and sitting down to think.

Truth is there is not really a lot of money in this your chosen field. Only a few chosen scientists get the grants from the government that mean the difference between thriving and dying. And it’s a well known fact amongst the academic community that the best way to get grants, and the media coverage that helps to draw the attention of the government who gives out these grants, is to fudge the details on “global warming” a touch.

After all, Phil Jones, the recently deposed head science guy at the Hadley Climate Research Unit had received 13 million dollars in American currency from the British government to tell everyone that we are all going to die in a giant furnace.

Of course Phil Jones and his friends around the world were exposed by the leaked emails of a short while ago as having manipulated the data [lied] to show conclusions that would lead to better news stories and better grants.

And when people tried to check their working out they just happened to lose all the data for temperatures for the last 150 years. Anyone who knows anything about the scientific method knows how absurd this is, no scientist EVER throws away data that can be checked to prove him right, only ever data that is certain to prove him wrong, and only clandestinely even then.

But it’s still about the only path to riches if you are in the field of climate science. God knows the “Big Oil” companies are not going to pay you, as of the last count over the last decade western governments have spent 79 BILLION dollars US in grants to scientists promoting the faith of man made global warming. This is 3000 times more than fossil fuel companies spent on skeptical research I the same time period. If you are a scientist working in the field, its easy to see where the money is.

Plus if you make wild enough predictions of doom you could even become famous. Have your stern looking face peering out of newsprint to admonish evil middle class people with the temerity to own flat screen televisions as the greedy bastards eat their cornflakes.

Sure most climate scientists get all expenses paid trips to alarmism conferences around the world that emit more CO2 than any flat screen ever could. But you have to “raise awareness”, and if making people feel guilty is how to do that, then so be it.

Scientists who disagree with the alarmism will be excluded from peer review manuals, will receive little to no funding and will find themselves nudged or even openly pushed out of Jobs. They find it almost impossible to get a publisher for their books outside the US.

In Australia Ian Plimer, a professor at two universities and a previous best selling author of two books with two different publishers [one sold 25,000, the other sold 16,000] found he was turned down by every single major publisher in Australia, including the ones he had made money for before, all because he questioned the global-warming-is-caused-by-man faith.

I am not in the position of the PHD student described above. I am not a scientist and never will be one. What I do have however, is a working bullshit detector.

And I have a few questions as a non scientist:

1.    No scientist worthy of the name destroys the data his work is based on. Why would they do this if keeping the data meant they could be proven right by anyone?

2.    If the “science” of man made global warming was so conclusive, why did they have to fake evidence and manipulate computer models?

3.    Why is it that governments are funding this scientific theory to such insane levels? Is it because the theory gives an excuse for higher taxes and bigger, more intrusive, more authoritarian and totalitarian government?

4.    Why are scientists who disagree shut out and scorned, thrown into the bleak grant-less wilderness?

5.    Why has the mainstream media covered up any argument against AGW theory?


Anyone with a working brain should find questions like the above disturbing. Sadly it seems most don’t know and have little chance of finding out.

But it’s a good lesson to us thinkers out there. For the sake of your freedom and mine NEVER trust your government, or anyone else’s for that matter. ALWAYS remain sceptical of anything they say or do. And ALWAYS follow the money.
