What Price A University Education Now ?

Education, education, education was the mantra. But Cut, Cut, Cut is the reality. And now the reality is that Universities will be forced to welcome masses of foreigners into our academic institutions to make ends meet, to the clear detriment of those young people born in this country who in my generation could count upon the system to provide them with the opportunity to make something of themselves.
Last year, while making speeches in parliament claiming that he had saved the world, Gordon Brown set his face against any change in the monumentally stupid education policy of his predecessor, whose ideal is to cram our universities with 50% of our young people so as to make the unemployment statistics look good while they collect mickey mouse degrees in surfing and beach management or even worse, ones that make you think you can become a forensic scientist when the reality is only a handful of such courses have the accreditation from the Royal Society Of Chemistry without which, take it from me, you application to the UK Forensic Science Service will be thrown into the bin.
But while Brown continues to back monumentally stupid policies and spins unbelievable lies (that last link goes ti the labour party main site, i hesitated to add it, click it only of you have the stomach for it) the fact is that for two years now the clarion call has been for Gordon to sort out the funding of this pipe dream. A swift google will bring up this article in the guardian as a good example of one of the staunchest supporters in "academia" of New Labour destruction of everything that gives identity to this country and its people. Even this woman, whose bio makes me want to puke, cries out that Gordon has the funding hopelessly wrong
But maybe he doesn't.
Last year several English Universities announced that they were withdrawing from the "Clearing". For those who do not know, universities almost without exception give students "offers" based on grades they know are near impossible to attain, and then wait to cherry pick from those who fail to attain those grades in a chaotic process that takes place after the real results come out. The real work is done in the weeks after the results are announced. In those days the establishments fill their courses from the ranks of the "failed" but there is no shame in this because no-one ever expected you to attain the offer grades anyway.
But last year it was different. Last year the universities stuck to their offers and refused to take students from clearing because they had no funds to pay the lecturers to teach them. For while spouting a pack of lies that he sought to have 50% of our young people go to university, Gordon cut the funds paid to the academic bodies to fund those places.
The result was that the universities opened their doors - as they always have done - to more foreign students who pay their own way and pay whatever fee the institution demands. A process that allows the less able from beyond our shores to have the education our own children are denied on the grounds of cost.
And now I see that Peter Mandelson is continuing this fine tradition of packing in the foreigner whilst denying the chance to our own. The Lord Who Spends His Free Time Leaping Onto His Brazilian Boyfriend whose British Citizenship was acquired with remarkable lack of fuss pomp and ceremony has just told Britain's Universities they can go screw themselves for he is selling them short this coming year to the tune of £533 MILLION
So the denial of education to our own and the handing out of the means to overcome our resistance ios handed out to all and sundry from beyond our shores whose governments can pay for it.
