So here we are again. Christmas Day and a year almost ended that as simply flown by.  Why does time go so quick when you get older?

At the time of writing this article it is very early but already in some homes, children are already sat around the Christmas tree in their pyjamas, whilst waiting for their mothers to drag their fathers from their beds and stumble down the stairs to see them open their presents.  Blessed are those happy families with a husband, wife and several children.

And the presents that took so long to wrap will be removed in seconds and small faces will light up at seeing the present they most wanted this year.  Merry Christmas and have a great day to you people.

And in other homes, long married couples whose children have flown the nest will come down their stairs and sit in the kitchen over a cup of tea and talk about how it no longer seems like Christmas now the children have gone.  But never mind, those children will phone later I am sure.  So enjoy your day and also have a Merry Christmas.  You have earned it.

But in some kitchens today, just one person will pour the tea then sit and look at the decorations with an aching numbness where their heart used to be.  For this will be their first year without their spouse of many years.  Life that can be so good can also be so cruel.  But that is life and it must go on.

If you know that person sitting there alone, then take some time out today to give them a call or visit and let them know that you at least care.
