Jerry Who?

Who the hell is Jerry Dammers you ask?  That is what I thought when I read this rubbish over on the Newham Recorder where it says that SKA legend and fervent anti-racism campaigner has words of warning for the British National Party and its supporters.  Boy are we True Brits quaking in our boots now.

The truth about Dammers, is that he is another pathetic one hit wonder who made a record in the 1970's about the terrorist Nelson Mandela and has lived of that ever since.  Unable to make it as a singer after being kicked out of the band he was in, he now scrapes a living by DJing around the more sleazy clubs of England.

Born in India, the son of the Dean of Bristol cathedral and personal friend of the drug addled Pete Doherty, he attended the exclusive King Henry VIII School and during his time he has been a mod, hippie and then a skinhead before deciding to try and and jump on the anti BNP bandwagon and earn some money.

Because of this, he was awarded a honorary degree from Coventry University for DJing at the launch party of the Searchlight front organisation Love Music Hate Racism.  This award shows how completely devalued are the  honorary degrees handed out like fast food flyers in a city centre.

In the article that attempts to bring Dammer's pathetic career back to life, he had me rolling on the floor when he said:

"The BNP has done quite a successful job in the area. We're still not quite sure who they want to send back, but their message is still one of hate, and there are various points that they fail to acknowledge with regard to immigration.

"A lot of those immigrants are extremely hard-working and are, in fact, soaking up our unemployment, not adding to it.

"I hate that the BNP have become part of the furniture, so to speak, and by letting them on Question Time last year, that the BBC got sucked in by it all.

"I feel passionately that they should not be able to have a stronghold in Barking, or anywhere else either."

He says: "I'll be playing a lot of old reggae tunes, which at the time had some great messages to them.

Well yes the BNP has done a successful job in Barking but what sort of campaigner is Dammer, if he does not even know what the British National Party policies are?  Let me help you Dammer, the party will send back ALL illegal immigrants in Our Country.  Does that help?

However his last sentence really does have me worried.  I can think of nothing worse than having some geriatric playing reggae tunes at me to help form my political opinions.
