Solidarity is still a relatively new Union. Whilst it did very little in the first year it has more than made up for it in the last few!

We have represented over a hundred members and given advice to many others. Our membership has steadily grown. We represent the majority of Union membership in a few workplaces and we are working toward recognition (for collective bargaining purposes) for the first time in some of them. We have fought all attempts by employers to discriminate against members. We have negotiated good financial settlements for members in employment disputes.

It is vital however that we keep on growing for only in that way can we develop our representation.

If you have been a beneficiary of our representation in the past you will appreciate how important that service can be. We would appreciate your efforts in finding us new members which in turn will improve the service we can offer to all members. Just one new member within the next week will be a great help. Make it your personal aim this week to recruit one other member.

Other ways you can help

Apart from recruiting you could also:

* Order 100 Solidarity leaflets to distribute at workplaces, in neighbourhoods or door-to-door. Some members make this a regular task – special mention to Glen. Just send £3 to our central address. Alternatively you can download leaflets from our website and copy off what you need here:-

* If you ever stand as a candidate in an election you could please mention that you are a member of our Union on your election address and give our web URL.

* Register an interest in becoming a rep for the Union. We are compiling a list and will be sending out invitations to a training event.

* Ensure you don't fall behind on your dues (especially if you paid a yearly/half-yearly sub)

* Send us a donation to allow us to grow. You can do this using the form below or online at:-

http://www.solidaritytradeunion.com/donate

*If you are not already a member join! You can join by mailing a cheque for £60 to or request a Standing Order form (to pay £5 per month) by post or by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Alternatively join online at:-

USE OUR SOCIAL NETWORKING TOOLS

If you look at the top of our Union website you will see a number of small icons.

These are “Social Bookmarking” tools.

The most important and most beneficial tools we have at our disposal are Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Digg-it.
Each and every reader has the option and ability to share or send the article they have just read to each and every one of these other social networks. Please take time to do this so that our articles viral out and the traffic to our site increases. It is a small action that will make a big difference.

MAY DAY COMMITTEES

Two years ago we organised a number of May Day events which included a special leaflet for the day itself. This year it was very low-key.

We wish however to put in a strong campaign in 2010 but to make it work we need your help. We would like to have organised throughout the UK a number of May Day 2010 Committees even if only two people strong! There is a lot of course that can be carried out by a single member via the media and the Internet (we will consider giving Committee heads contact details of those who wish to help and live reasonably near).

If you would like to head a May Day Committee please complete the form at the end of this bulletin and return or email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it A member of the Union Executive will be appointed overall head. We look forward to hearing from you.

TRADE UNION MATERIAL

Solidarity would like to get hold of other trade union material. Members and supporters should send in trade union journals, leaflets and posters. This will help with both our agitprop and more in-depth news articles.

We’d also like to step up our coverage of workplace issues. We’d like to gain a reputation for the accuracy and detail of these reports. Therefore, we’d encourage whistleblowers to come forward with details. Real workplace issues may seem trivial to some, but they are significant for those directly affected. Your anonymity will be guaranteed.

Solidarity would also encourage all members and supporters to submit ideas (either pictures, artwork, text or subject matter) for leaflets and posters.
