Government is urged to quash English Defence League
The Government has been urged by MPs to consider 'quashing' the English Defence League.
A parliamentary motion signed by six MPs accuses the EDL – an alliance of football supporters and far right-wing activists – of trying "to spread fear, violence and hatred against the Muslim community".
The Early Day Motion, which was tabled by Bradford West Labour MP Marsha Singh, calls on "the relevant Government departments to come together to investigate and if necessary quash this non-political social movement".
The motion has also been backed by Tory and Lib Dem MPs.
