Muslims in a Dutch city where anti-Islam leader Geert Wilders' party won local elections reacted with shock and anger Thursday, fearing his popular rise would fan the flames of hatred.
"I am afraid that it will lead to more hatred," said 20-year-old student Sakina Buyatui, a Dutch-born resident of Almere, a city of nearly 190,000 people near Amsterdam where a third of the population is of immigrant origin.
In a show of strength ahead of June general elections, Wilders' Party for Freedom (PVV) came first with 21.6 percent of the vote in Almere in Wednesday's election.
"This is bad for Almere," Buyatui told AFP, wearing an Islamic headdress at the central station, where people of Turkish, Moroccan and Suriname descent, called "allochtonen" in Dutch, rub shoulders seamlessly with indigenous compatriots.

Well first the good news. Plans to build Europe's biggest mosque close to the London Olympics site have been halted - for now at least.
Now building a Mosque that could accommodate 12,000 followers of the Cult of the Dead Paedophile next to the site of the Olympic Stadium seems to me, to be a bit akin to building a fireworks factory run by pyromaniac next to an oil depot. Your just asking for trouble down the road.
Hopefully the authorities will now close the illegal mosque that has been operating on the site for the last three years. Any other "religion" or organisation that flouted the law for three years would have been stamped on after three days let alone years.
Practising the art of Taqiyya, the Muslim Council of Britain said:
“We would hope that they will be able to work in co-operation with the local council if they wish to set up a mosque in the area. Tablighi Jamaat has no ties to terrorism. They have been subjected to some unfair coverage.”
And that did bring a wry smile to my face. Unfair coverage. Moslems kill people. It is what they do. It is what they have always done. It what they will always do until they are stopped.
And supporting the lie spinning MCB, the Islamic group of Minhaj-ul-Quran has thrown the Dhimmi fools in Our Country a 600 page document saying that Islam condemns terrorism.
It is one of the most comprehensive documents of its kind to be published in Britain. Released in Pakistan last month, the fatwa uses texts in the Koran and other Islamic writings to argue that such attacks are “absolutely against the teachings of Islam and that Islam does not permit such acts on any excuse, reason or pretext”.
Pure, classic Taqiyya and gobbled up by the appeasing Establishment with relish.
Now not so good news, is the fact that the plans for the unwanted Dudley Mosque are still going ahead despite protests of those who will have to live in its shadow until they are finally driven from the areas by the invading army of Islam.
Well people it is time to make a stand and what better place to do it than Dudley. Defend Democracy. Help stop this symbol of domination from being build. The so called anti-fascist thugs of Cameron's Claw Hammer gang, the UAF have made death threats to the mother of four who organised the setting up of a Facebook group opposed to the mad moslem Anjem Choudary threatening to march through Wootton Bassett.
“There have even been threats made to the families of those who have given their lives for this country. It is beyond belief – these are horrific emails with vile, vile threats.”
As well as threatening the mother, other messages of hate have been send to families of British Soldiers who have been killed in action. Currently over 700,000 people have registered their disgust at the Cult of the Dead Paedophiles plans to swagger through Wootton Basset with more people signing every hour.
Just when is David Cameron and all those other MP's who have signed up to show support for the UAF going to publicly denounce these mad marxist thugs and when are the stupid people who turn out to support them going to realise just what an evil organisation they have got themselves involved with?

Seven people have been arrested in the Irish Republic over an alleged plot to kill a Swedish cartoonist for depicting the Prophet Muhammad, police say.
The four men and three women are all Muslim immigrants, according to media reports, though a police statement did not confirm this.
Cartoonist Lars Vilks had depicted the Prophet Muhammad with the body of a dog in the Nerikes Allehanda newspaper.
Islamic militants put a $100,000 (£67,000) bounty on his head.
Mr Vilks was quoted as saying he was unfazed by the arrests, which he said he thought could be linked to two death threats he had received by telephone in January.

Irish police said the seven suspects were arrested after an investigation into a "conspiracy to murder an individual in another jurisdiction", a probe that also involved police in the US and other European countries. The suspects ranged in age from their mid-20s to late-40s.
Ireland's RTE news network reported that five were detained in Waterford and two others in Cork.
RTE said those in custody were originally refugees from Morocco and Yemen, but had gained asylum and were in the Republic of Ireland legally.
Mr Vilks has been under police protection in Sweden since threats were made against his life.
"I'm not shaking with fear, exactly," he told Swedish news agency TT after Tuesday's arrests.
"I have prepared in different ways and I have an axe here in case someone should manage to get in through the window."
In 2007 a group linked to al-Qaeda in Iraq offered a $100,000 reward for killing Mr Vilks, and a 50% bonus if he was "slaughtered like a lamb" by having his throat cut.
It offered another $50,000 for the murder of Ulf Johansson, editor-in-chief of the regional newspaper, Nerikes Allehanda.
'Now it's your turn'
The Vilks controversy arose in 2007, when his entry in an arts project was published by the newspaper.
It pictured a dog with the head of a bearded man in a turban.
Several Muslim countries protested against the picture.
At the time, Swedish officials expressed regret at any hurt caused to Muslims' feelings, but said the government could not prevent the publication of such drawings because of media freedom rules.
The case came about a year and a half after a series of depictions of Muhammad in Denmark's Jyllands-Posten paper caused an uproar in early 2006.
Those cartoons sparked protests from Muslims around the world. Dozens of people were killed in riots.
Muslims regard any image of the Prophet Muhammad as blasphemy.
In January, one of the cartoonists whose drawing appeared in Jyllands-Posten, the Dane Kurt Westergaard, was targeted in his own home, allegedly by a Somali radical Muslim with an axe.
Mr Westergaard, who escaped unharmed, had depicted the Prophet Muhammad with a bomb in his turban.
Mr Vilks told The Associated Press news agency that the telephone threats in January had come from "a Swedish-speaking Somali. He reminded me about what had happened to Westergaard and threatened with a follow-up and that 'now it's your turn'."

A video which shows children as young as three being encouraged to hold guns has been seized by counter-terrorism police in a raid in Manchester.
Officers say it is evidence of attempts by Islamic extremists to radicalise youngsters.
It shows two children, aged about three and six, playing with a pistol and a Kalashnikov rifle.
The footage, which it is believed to have been filmed in Pakistan, was found on the hard drive of a computer during a raid carried out under the Terrorism Act 2000.
A boy and a girl are seen playing with the guns, and a man's voice says: “What do you do with the weapon?”
He answers his own question with: “I want to kill the infidels [non-believers].”
THE leader of Dudley Council says she is “very disappointed” after a High Court judge rejected their appeal against an £18m mosque.
Sitting at Birmingham Civil Justice Centre, Judge Mr Justice Wyn Williams granted outline planning permission to Dudley Muslim Association's plans to build the mosque and community, training and enterprise centre (CTEC) on derelict land in Hall Street.
Dudley Council lodged the High Court appeal to challenge the lawfulness of the Planning Inspector’s decision, following a week long inquiry in June last year.
