Now will this cause a by election before the next General election ? Or will this indeed force the hand of Gordon Brown?
It is a delicate time, but politics can be cruel, and you have to think of the ramifications. Gordon Brown could be faced with another uncomfortable by election just before the General Election, or the surprise of a March election will be lost as the petition for this seat is held up. Or wait till May and have this as the backdrop.
The seat is far from safe Labour and was expected to be lost to the Tories.
